COMPASSIONATE DEPOSSESSION

Sometimes, a person who has experienced soul loss or other traumas may find that they have become a host to suffering beings or entities. These suffering beings may live off of a person’s energy and influence them in a variety of ways. Illness, depression, substance abuse, phobias, emotional problems, suicidal tendencies and other issues may be in part due to the influence of overshadowing of beings that have attached to the client. These beings are generally people whose own experience at the time of death has become compromised in such a way that they did not successfully make their own journey to the Light. Compassionate Depossession is a humane therapy that benefits both the client and the attached suffering being, even if that suffering being is reluctant to cross into the Light.

Historically this type of healing has been known by a number of different names: Spirit-Releasing, Depossession, Exorcism, Casting out Demons, Psychopomp or Clearings. For the sake of clarity, I will briefly describe these to give context to the work I do.

Spirit-Releasing is a modern, more benign and emotionally-neutral umbrella term for: Moving a lost soul from the Middle World towards the “Light” whether that soul is attached to a person (possession) or place (haunting).

The term Depossession, refers to removing a spirit (of someone who has not crossed over to the Light) that has attached to a living person.

The terms Exorcist or Casting out Demons, generally come from Catholic or other Christian Churches. The belief is that some type of evil spirit has attached to (or possessed) a person, and that spirit must be banished or cast towards Hell. The assumption is that any possession spirit is “Evil”, and that its destination is “Hell”. This old-school type of spirit removal was often done in an adversarial, battle-like mode. By approaching spirit release in an antagonistic way, this modality of depossession created a lot of drama, stress, and danger for all involved: client, practitioner and spirit, and did not always produce the desired results.

Psychopomp, is an ancient Greek term: psycho=spirit, and pomp=to conduct; meaning a “Conductor of Souls” or “One who guides the souls of the dead to the light.” This can refer to the person (noun) who guides the souls, or the act (verb) of guiding the souls. The Psychopomp can be a Shaman, or a person specially trained in helping the dead. The ceremony or ritual of moving a soul from the Middle World to the Light can also be called, Psychopomp, whether the soul is being moved from a person or place. Clearing, is the term usually used for removing heavy energies or spirits from a PLACE. This can be either a place that is Haunted (the presence of a ghost), or simply has lots of yucky energy, (often due to a history of traumatic events) but doesn’t have a ghost.

Compassionate Depossession, is a term coined by a Buddhist-trained Shamanic Practitioner, named Betsy Bergstrom, who developed a modern, peaceful, non-adversarial approach to dealing with ALL FORMS of suffering beings. This practice of spirit-release work, includes working with so-called “demonic” and extra-terrestrial (ET) types of beings. This is a kinder and no-drama way of helping a spirit move towards the Light. After training in many styles of depossession work, I find this method most effective and it is the way I now practice this type of healing modality.

Symptoms of possession may include:

  • Suicidal tendencies
  • Hearing voices or having intrusive thoughts that don’t feel like your own
  • Depression, Anxiety, Obsessions
  • An onset of phobias that don’t relate logically to any life experience or event
  • Phantom pain or symptoms of illness that are not medically diagnosable
  • Inexplicable mood swings, personality shifts or irrational thoughts
  • Substance abuse, binges, or uncontrollable addictions

Compassionate Depossession helps these souls move to a place of peace and frees the client from the influences of the suffering being.

Space Clearing

The spiritual clearing of land, home, office or other space may be needed if you or others are having any of the following experiences in a particular location:

  • A room, space or place feeling cold, dark or depressing for no apparent reason
  • A repeating theme of unfortunate “accidents” or “bad luck” incidents in a location
  • Experiencing human activity where there is none
  • Inexplicable instances of objects moving, disappearing, or appearing
  • Lights and electrically powered objects going on or off

In general, these type of experiences can be attributed to either an imprint of some type of trauma that happened at that location or (in the case of moving objects or electrical anomalies) activities one would associate with a place being “haunted”. Clearing involves removing the heavy energy from a past trauma in a place, or communicating with a lost Spirit(s) and moving them to a place of peace, (or both) followed by re-energizing and balancing the space.
